HAPPY New Year.
2011 was a tough year for a lot of folks. Financially, emotionally, physically... I don't know the great cosmic plan and I can't unravel the meaning of why bad things happen to good people, but I do know this, things happen. Bad things, good things, things we can't always understand or categorize.
The glass is not half empty or half full, it's a vessel. It's full, it's empty, it's both, it's neither, it's waiting for you to decide what to do with it. It's just a glass, nothing more, nothing less.
You are the elixir. Fill it up, drain it dry, fill it up again and again and again. The Universe gives free refills, did you know that? I highly recommend you fill it with something tasty, like say your really tasty strawberry fizzy lemonade. Make a toast, smash it, get a new glass. Whatever works, Baby Cakes.
Everything in life is about perspective. Some folks will choose to spend their lives being sad about all of the crappy things that happened to them. Crappy things happen to everyone. Do we live every moment clinging to these crappy things and allow them to define us or destroy us?
In order to risk joy, we have to let go of the painful past and live in the present.
And once we can begin to release our attachment to the sorrow, we make room for joy. The joy that was always there, the joy of all of the things we did get, the people who did love us, the good things that happened even in the worst of times, the amazing things we've experienced and can still experience, the wonders of being alive in this magical, magical world.
Happy New Year.
No, really, HAPPY New Year. Try that one on for size and see how it fits.
Carpe Gaudium...seize joy.

This year has been full of a lot of good things and a lot of not-so-good things for me. It was an eventful year all around!
ReplyDeleteI'd rather focus on the good things, though, and the lessons the bad things taught me -- because even the worst experiences can shape us for the better.
I think choosing joy is something to be worked on every day. It takes time and effort, it can be hard, and there can be setbacks. But it's worth it, considering how draining the alternative is!
I wish you the very happiest of new years, Madge! Getting to be friends with you has definitely been a good thing for me this year. :)

ReplyDeleteYou are a ray of sunshine in a weary world! Thanks for your support and for your inspiration. May this next year bring you all of the glittery goodness you can handle...and then some!

This last year was neither good or bad for me. More just blah. I did see my income cut considerably but we made enough to get by with cuts which is a lot better then a lot of folks. However I am determined to shine in 2012.
